Darlene Enright Bestgen, 83, Whitewood, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be 3:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, with rosary services beginning at 7 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at St. Martin's Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Christopher Hathaway officiating. Burial follows at the St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Right to Life and the Fraternity of St. Peter. Darlene requested Masses be offered for her soul in place of flowers.
Darlene was born August 15, 1929, at Aberdeen, SD, to Earl and Rita (Marshall) Enright. She was raised in Faith, SD, and moved to Rapid City as a young girl where she attended Cathedral Catholic school.
The family moved to Sturgis in 1946 where Darlene graduated from St. Martin's Academy. She received her business degree from the National College of Business in Rapid City. She returned to Sturgis where she worked as the office manager for her father. They operated the Enright Independent Oil Company.
On July 6, 1950, Darlene married Philip Bestgen at Sturgis. They moved to the Bestgen farm and ranch where Darlene continued as office manager for her father's business as well as managing the bookkeeping on the farm.
Darlene's family was the joy of her life, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed time spent traveling, dancing, tending her garden and raising flowers. In later years she enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include her husband Phil Bestgen, Whitewood; sons, Leo (Sinnet) Bestgen, Sturgis, Greg (Judy) Bestgen, Rapid City, Roch (Rita) Bestgen, Whitewood, Dan (Deb) Bestgen, Rapid City, Tim (Karen) Bestgen, Whitewood, Rob (Susan) Bestgen, Rochester, MN; daughters, Nerine (John) Gross, Sturgis, Mary (Jerry) Werdel, Derby, KS, Sharon (Jeff) Beardt, Rapid City; one brother, Edward (Nancy) Enright, Redding, CT; also forty two grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and five grandsons.
