Darrell Olson Carr was born June 25, 1948, the son of Bernard and Lola Carr in Rapid City, South Dakota.  He grew up in Prairie City, SD where he rode his horse daily to Strool School. He graduated from Faith High School in Faith SD where he met his high school sweetheart and wife of fifty-seven years, Phyllis Overacker Carr.   After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army serving for 2 years including 1 year in Vietnam.   After his military service, he attended Black Hills State College, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Science and an Associates in business.

On August 9, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Overacker.  Four children were born to this union: Trisha Marie, Darla June, Clay Earl, and Clint Darrell.

Darrell was a welder and heavy equipment operator throughout most of his life.  His favorite job was operating the dragline for his brother, Keith Carr.   He was proud to have been involved in the excavation of the Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur bones while working for his brother Keith.

Darrell and his wife enjoyed traveling to Hawaii (5 times), Alaska cruise, and RV traveling across the entire United States.  His favorite destination was Hawaii.   He also enjoyed driving throughout the Black Hills in his 1991 Red Chevrolet Convertible.

Some of Darrell's favorite hobbies were reading Westerns, watching bull riding, riding the four-wheeler around the property, restoring John Deere tractors, and tending to livestock.  He and his family built 5 homes together, in their spare time, in the Whispering Pines area of Belle Fourche, SD living there since 1976.   He enjoyed riding his 1929 Model A pickup in parades and giving grandkids rides.

Darrell Carr, 77, Belle Fourche, SD Passed away the Fort Meade Medical Center on July 27, 2025.

Darrell is survived by his beautiful wife, Phyllis; daughter, Trisha (Tyrone); daughter, Darla (Alan); son, Clay (Lindsey); son, Clint (LynDee); grandchildren, Tayler, Tristen, Chance (Mackenzie), Tre', Kelby, Trenton, Tacen, Trenden, Cora, Capri, and great grandchildren, Aiden, Myles, Sage, and Emerald.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Lola; sister, Jonell, and brothers, Keith and Rodney; niece, Loretto Preuss; and brother-in-law, John Kinyon.
