Darrell L. Kalina, 71, Austin, TX, died Thursday, November 18, 2010 at a nursing home in Austin after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of services at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Mike Fox officiating. Burial with military honor by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Darrell was born June 7, 1939 in Bowman County, ND, to Adolph and Irene Kalina. He attended Bowman schools and graduated in 1957. He attended Wahpeton NDSSS and later enlisted in the US Army. He served in Korea. After his honorable discharge he worked for California Casualty Insurance Company for thirty plus years.

Darrell was married to Gaitha Buster and raised one son, Jeffrey.

After growing up on a North Dakota farm and ranch, Darrell developed a keen sense of real estate and love of the land.

Darrell was married to Karyl Ogden for 21 years. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Darrell was always ready for a good game of golf, for fun, or a couple of bucks! His laugh was unique and contagious.

Survivors include his wife, Karyl Kalina, Austin, TX; mother, Irene Kalina, Bowman, ND; brothers, Delroy Kalina, Phoenix, AZ, Donald Kalina, Bowman, ND; sister, Darlene (Stan) Vik, Atlanta, GA.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Karyl as well as numerous family and friends.
