Darrel was born January 7, 1951, at Flint, MI, to Leland Ray and Donna Jean (Morey) Varner. Following the completion of his education, he enlisted in the US Air Force, and served his country honorably.

He met Katherine Murray and the couple was married in Enid, OK, on February 22, 1974.

Following his discharge, he worked in construction for the next 35 years, starting in Fort Collins, CO. In 1995, the family moved to Summerset, SD. He built homes until 2006 when he retired.

Darrel Eugene Varner, 64, Summerset, SD, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the VA Black Hills Health Care Fort Meade.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Varner, Summerset; one son, Brad (Annette) Varner, Box Elder, SD; one daughter, Tina (Sergio) Saraceni, Watertown, SD; brothers, Paul (Dawn) Varner, Belleville, MI, and Craig (Sarah) Varner, Ferndale, MI; sisters, Susan (Dave) Oliver, Waterford, MI, and Karen (Kenny) Vollmer, Davison, MI; grandchildren, Austin and Lucas Saraceni, Stephanie Blalack, Cameron Varner, and Taylor Anderson;
stepfather, Warren Tucker, Waterford, MI; stepmother, Mary Varner, Swartz Creek, MI; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
