Obituary

Darwin Lee Brink, 70, Sturgis, died Sunday, January 5, 2014, at his home in Sturgis with his family by his side.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with the family present at 6:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Denzel Nonhof and Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Butte Cemetery.

Darwin was born March 25, 1943, at Sturgis, SD, to Delmar and Jeanette (Walloth) Brink. He grew up on the family ranch near Fairpoint where he attended country school. Darwin graduated from Sturgis High School where he participated in rodeo. He was a regional all-around champion and state champion bull rider. Darwin has always enjoyed the rodeo, watching his sons and grandsons race, and listening to his daughter sing.

Following graduation he married Terry Renay Schuelke in Sturgis on November 24, 1962.

Darwin graduated from the Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo, IA, with a degree in mechanical drafting. He returned to South Dakota and was employed by Brady Engineering in Spearfish for several years.

Darwin started a plumbing business and later built the Outlaw Inn motel with a business partner. He also bought a trucking company which he operated for several years. The last ten years he was employed as the campground manager for the Buffalo Chip.

Survivors include his wife, Terry Brink, Sturgis; sons, Darrell (Laurie) Brink, Gillette, WY, Corey (Wendy) Brink, Sturgis, and Jason Brink, Sturgis; daughter, Denise (Greg) Gehring, Pierre; brothers, Marlin (Linda) Brink, Fairpoint, Delbert (Robin) Brink, Sturgis, and Keith Brink, Box Elder; sister, Neoma (Karl) Richter, Enning; nine grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Ghett Gehring.

A memorial has been established.
