David Alexander Campbell, 84, was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 12, 1939, to Alexander and Catherine (Sutter) Campbell. When he was 15, he joined the Army National Guard on 21 January 1955. While in the Air Force, he launched B-52 combat sorties from the island of Guam, supporting the Vietnam War. During Dave's time in the US Navy from 1968 through 1970, he fought in Vietnam. He then served in both the US Navy Reserves and Air Force Reserves retiring on 6 November 1990.
Dave built a career as an electrician in the telecommunications industry for 30+ years, where he worked for Western Electric, Illinois Bell, AT&T and Lucent Technologies.
Dave moved to Minnesota to be near the Meyer Family where he enjoyed hunting, going to car and gun shows, and hanging out at the American Legion. Dave never found a car that he wouldn't buy. When having some health problems in 2021, he moved to South Dakota to be with his son's family, Raymond, Stacy, Peyton, Austin (Bailey) and Carly. He was a Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Dave is survived by his children, David, Denise, Damon, Sherrie, Shellie, and Raymond.
David Alexander Campbell passed away on 26 June 2024 surrounded by family.
According to Dave's wishes there will be no formal funeral service, but he will receive the honors of a military burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota, Monday, July 8, 2024, 9:30 a.m.
