STURGIS | David Michael Morris, 67, Sturgis and formerly of Lead, was called to heaven on July 11, 2014 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center - Ft. Meade, after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. David was born January 26, 1947 in Rapid City, SD to Charles and Muriel Morris. David attended St. Patrick Catholic School through 7th grade, and graduated from Lead High School in 1965. He then joined the United States Marine Corps in October 1965, serving in the Vietnam Era and earning the Purple Heart Medal. In 1971, he joined his father, Charles as partners in Morris Standard located in Lead, SD. In 1978, his brother, Tom became his partner and then in 1995, his wife became his partner and they worked together until the business sold in 2007. In 2010, he also sold his wrecker business. On August 8, 1988, he married his wife, Betty in Lead, SD. David served on the Lead City council for 9 years, and was part of the economic development board. David is survived by his loving wife, Betty Morris, Sturgis; two daughters, Dawn (Russell) Evans, Loveland, CO and Kristina Graham, Killeen, TX; six grandchildren, Samantha, Kyante, Trelorne, Lilian, Sanaya and Luke-David; his sister, Linda (Bob) Asheim, Belle Fourche; two brothers, Peter Morris, Parker, CO and Dan Morris, Lead; many nieces; nephews; cousins and in-laws. David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Muriel Morris; brother, Thomas Morris; and sister, Sally Garcia. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am, Friday, July 18, 2014 with a visitation one hour prior at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Rev. Timothy Castor presiding. Following the service, the Patriot Guard Riders will lead the procession to Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis for graveside services. Military honors will be conducted by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corps.
