Obituary

David Allen Mullaney of Fruitdale, SD passed away on July 14th, 2011, surrounded by his wife Nancy and family in his home. David was born in Pierre, SD to Donald and Patricia (Schmit) Mullaney on September 18th, 1953. He graduated from Pierre High School in 1972. He married Deborah Batley in 1973 and welcomed Barbara Kay (Daddy's shadow) and Patrick Eugene (his best friend) in the coming years. David worked as an electrician for the city of Pierre and later BHP&L. In 1982 he moved to California and worked for PG&E until he medically retired in 1995. Upon returning to the Black Hills he met Nancy Miller Garrett, as well as gained three more children - Stacey Walters, Janessa Winter, and Morgan Garrett. His family continued to grow with the additions of his grandchildren Ethan Norton, Caleb Marler, Jaci Fierro-Mullaney, Madison Walters, Cristian Fierro-Mullaney, Lindsey Walters, Lilyan Winter, Gabriel Walters, Elliott Winter and Jaxen Mullaney. David's love for his grandchildren was apparent in every interaction he had with them. He was a constant in their lives and will be deeply missed by each of them. David and Nancy moved to Fruitdale (the Mullaney Acre) and married in 2003. They always opened their home to many, many friends and family. David was a member of the Township Board and was very active in caring for the community and was always willing to help out where he could. David lived for his family and his countless dear friends and they were his greatest asset. He never measured his worth by his bank account, but by his family and the pictures on the wall. David had a way of making everyone around him feel special and important. Birthdays, Anniversaries and Christmas were considered "events" and he never missed sending a card, not one. He will be truly missed by all that had the honor of being part of his life. David is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Miller) Mullaney, children; Barbara Mullaney (McGinnis), Patrick Mullaney & Melissa Trepl, Stacey(Jeffries) Walters and Kevin Walters, Janessa (Garrett) Winter and Judd Winter, grandkids; Ethan, Caleb, Jaci, Madison, Cristian, Lindsey, Lilyan, Gabe, Elliott, Jaxen, (and a new baby girl on the way), siblings; Peggy Mullaney, Mike (& Gina) Mullaney, Craig Mullaney, and Sharie Holland, father-in-law Ralph Miller, sister-in-laws Carol Percival & Mary Kay (Mike) Thompson, brother-in-law Rod Miller, and special family friends Ross Brich and Marshall Marchott, as well as countless other nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his Father Donald, Mother Patricia, Stepson Morgan, and Mother-in-law Bernice Miller. Visitation will begin Tuesday July 19th at 12:00 followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD.
