David R. Schuman, 79, Whitewood, SD, passed away on February 20, 2024, at Avantara Mountain View, Rapid City, SD.

David was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Clarence Paul and Enid (Vought) Schuman on February 24, 1944. He served in the US Air Force as a Barracks Chief, a Life Support Supervisor, and OJT Manager. His tour of duty took him to five countries in Southeast Asia, where he served for three years. After 20 years in the Air Force, David returned to Rapid City where he reconnected with his son and granddaughter.

He worked at a Hall Director at BHSU and as a counselor at Wingspread (Sky Ranch) for several years. In his spare time David enjoyed fishing and boating, being an active canoeist. David was a longtime member of the VFW and American Legion. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and as a man who loved his jokes.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Enid.

He is survived by his son, Christopher (Beth) Jones; and grandchildren, Alissa Hurley, Maya Biggins, Caydence Biggins, Arabella Oosterhoff, and Paisley Jones.

Funeral services will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, SD, on February 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
