Delbert Harrell Burdine, 75, Bison, died Sunday December 11, 2011 at the Lippold Hospice Suite in the Sturgis Regional Hospital.
A time of fellowship and refreshments will be offered at noon at the Presbyterian church in Bison on Wednesday, December 14.
Following lunch, graveside committal services will be at 2 p.m. at the Chance cemetery south of Bison. Masonic graveside rites will be delivered by Pasque Lodge 214 AF & AM.
Delbert was born August 11, 1936 at Snyder, TX, to Delbert Richard "Buck" and Mattie Vina (Harrell) Burdine. At an early age he moved with his family to the ranch on Rabbit Creek south of Bison. He attended country school before heading off to Brookings for high school. Delbert graduated from Belle Fourche High School. He was the cutting horse champion for Belle Fourche High School.
Delbert moved to San Saba, TX, where he worked for a cutting horse trainer for about a year. He returned home and showed horses before returning to the ranch where he worked alongside his father.
On October 30, 1963 he married Donna Mitchell in Rapid City. The couple returned to the ranch where they have lived since.
Delbert was a longtime life member of the NRA, past master and life member of Pasque Lodge 214 AF&AM Masonic Lodge in Bison. He was the secretary of the lodge for many years. He was also past patron of the Fairview Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a 33rd degree member of the Scottish Rite and former sexton of the Chance Cemetery. He loved the ranch and raising his horned limousin commercial cattle. He was an accomplished welder and blacksmith.
Survivors include his wife Donna Burdine, Bison; son Slade Burdine, Bison; one sister, Lil (Marshall) Elkin, Carlock, IL; grandchildren, Ryan and Madison Burdine; step grandchild Kaycee Welsh; 2 nieces and 6 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant child.
