Delores Julia Lewis, 93, of Sturgis died January 2, 2021, at Monument Health Sturgis. She was born February 22, 1927, to Gustave "Gus" and Julia Stelzer at Parkston, SD. She had three older brothers: Roland, Lawrence, and Robert, all deceased.
She graduated from Parkston High School and Mitchell Business school and worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, and legal secretary throughout her life.
She married E.C. "Buck" Lewis, Jr., and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. They lived in Yankton, Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Wessington Springs, and Miller during Buck's tenure with Bell Telephone Company. During those years they spent a lot of time camping and fishing on the Missouri River, with Dee catching the majority of the walleye and Buck tying lures for her.
After retirement, they wintered in Key Largo, Fl, and then in Mesa, AZ. They enjoyed their retirement years greatly and loved their travels and the friends they made along the way and those at home in Miller. Dee continued to winter in AZ for 10 years after Buck's death in 1999. She lived in Miller until she moved to Sturgis in 2019, and lived independently in Sturgis until moving to Mountain View Assisted Living in March. She missed her Miller bridge groups and her church-First Presbyterian Church of Miller-greatly.
She is survived by her two sons and their families: Tom (Bonnie) of Granbury, TX and Nancy (Daryl) White and daughters Cassidy, Sarina, and Gabrielle and Paul and daughter Emma; Chuck (Judy) of Sturgis and Amy (Trevor Lane and daughters Charlie and Robbie), Sarah (Jesse Rhoden and children Ladd, Sully and Gus Buck) and Ben (Katie) and son Graham.
Her ashes will be buried with Buck at Black Hills National Cemetery this summer.
