Deloris Lucille Rose, 85, Sturgis, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Golden Living Center of the Black Hills in Rapid City.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Kyle Reinhiller officiating. Inurnment will be Friday, March 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Deloris was born July 15, 1924, at Fairfax, SD, to Dale and Hulda (DeLaney) Billiter. She grew up in Fairfax and was the Homecoming Warrior Princess for Bennett County High School in Martin, SD, in 1942. After graduating from high school, she attended business college in Rapid City. She and her father moved to San Francisco, CA, where she worked as a telephone operator and a bank teller.
Deloris moved back to Martin where she met Richard F. Ferguson. They were married and later divorced.
She married Richard Rose in 1948. The couple lived on a ranch near Martin. They operated the ranch until the early 60's when they started the Rose Trout Hatchery. They operated the hatchery from 1962 until 1986. They sold fish throughout the states and several provinces in Canada. After the ranch sold she moved to Martin and retired. She moved to Sturgis in 1999 where she enjoyed trips to Deadwood and the slot machines. She also enjoyed bingo, cards, and oil painting.
Survivors include her sons, Terry (Lou) Rose, Black Hawk, and Richard Rose, AZ; four grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard.
A memorial has been established.
