After graduating from the 8th grade she helped out at home until she moved to Aberdeen and worked at the Alonzo Ward Hotel. She married Harold Zumbaum on November 30, 1952. They made their living working on different ranches back and forth from South Dakota to Colorado. Harold and Delphia were the proud parents of two beautiful daughters Kathy and Brenda.
