DeWayne Overholt, 90, of Piedmont, died Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Monument Health, Rapid City, South Dakota.

Wayne was born August 1, 1931, in Quinn, South Dakota, to Ralph and Ellen (Clarin) Overholt.

On August 7, 1950, he married Priscilla "Babe" Desieve. To this union three children were born. Wayne served in the United States Army from August 1951 until May of 1953. During his tour of duty, he served in the Korean War.

Wayne and Babe lived in Rapid City, where Wayne worked for Buckingham and Nash Finch. In 1959 they bought a ranch on Elk Creek Road. They had a dairy farm there for several years and later Wayne started "Overholt Trucking". Wayne owned several trucks and hauled cattle for many years. It was a lot of hard work, but Wayne enjoyed his years on the ranch. He formed a lifelong bond of friendship with many of his neighbors and workers, who often referred to him as "Big O". After 36 years on the ranch, they retired to Indian Hills in Piedmont, where Wayne still lived until his passing.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Wayne) Johnson, Piedmont, SD; four grandchildren, Chastity Overholt, Terry Gullage, Brian (Kelsey) Johnson, and Angela Nemeth; seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, Don Overholt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Babe Overholt; sons, Brian and Dennis Overholt; parents, Ralph and Ellen Overholt; brothers, Gene and John, and one sister, Darlene Parker.

Big "O" will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

A memorial has been established to the Rapid City VFW.
