Diana Kathryn Hudson was born to Paul and Dorothy (Dustrude) Hudson on November 28, 1950 in Rapid City, SD, and is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. She attended Rapid City Public Schools, St. Paul's Indian Mission in Marty, SD, St. Francis Boarding School in St Francis, SD, and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1969. She has three children of whom she was very proud. She lived in Piedmont, SD, with Rick Weig.
Diana was self-taught in many areas of the arts. Inspiration came in many ways for Diana. Throughout her life she had been gifted with the talent of drawing, as well as creating handiwork utilizing embroidery, crochet, and eventually beadwork, which became her specialty. Her work is represented in numerous private collections. She entered her work in many exclusive Native American art markets and won numerous awards. Her work was exclusive to Prairie Edge in Rapid City, SD.
Her day-to-day jobs included working at the Tipi Shop in the Sioux Indian Museum, Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, and The Journey Museum Store, all in Rapid City, SD.
Diana Kathryn Hudson made her journey to the spirit world on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
She is survived by special friend, Rick Weig; son, John (Sheila) Krause, Burnsville, MN; daughter, Laura (Chad) Vermundson, Billings, MT; son, Joseph Krause, Dickinson, ND; her siblings, Gloria Rittenberry, Paulette Montileaux, Geri Eby, Paul Hudson, and Steve Hudson; seven grandchildren, Emily, Henry, and Ethan Krause, Jeffrey and Garret Vermundson, Bobbi Dee Steele, and Jaxon Krause; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delos Oldewurtel; her parents, Paul and Dorothy; her siblings, Harold "Sonny" Hudson; and Janet (Hudson) Shultz.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2020, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD. Inurnment will be at a later date.
