Spearfish - Dick A. Turbiville, 77 of Spearfish and formerly of Belle Fourche, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his home in Spearfish, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born December 24, 1934 at Camp Crook SD, to Alden and Eva (Richmond) Turbiville. He was raised on the family homestead in southeastern Montana. He graduated from Carter County High School in Ekalaka, MT in 1952. He then attended Rocky Mountain College and Black Hills State College. He married his high school sweetheart, Rose Ann Rowley on November 21, 1953, they had four children. Dick was a people person with an exceptional sense of humor. He started his teaching career at Pine Hill School in rural Carter County MT. He continued his teaching and coaching career in Ekalaka and Gardiner, MT, Hot Springs and Belle Fourche, SD and was assistant basketball coach at Black Hills State College. He owned several restaurant businesses in the Black Hills Area. In his retirement, Dick enjoyed ranching, working in Deadwood, golf and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann, Spearfish; two sons, Don (Susan) Turbiville, Marshalltown, IA and Rich Turbiville, Deadwood; two daughters, Ann Sullivan, Spearfish and LaVerne Collins, Whitewood; ten grandchildren, Ross Turbiville, Sarah Erikson, Aaron Boyd, Danielle Blakney, Quinn Sullivan, Jeremy Aspen, Alanna Didier, Ashley Kopp, Jessica Turbiville and Eli Corbitt; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Linda Kautzmann, Huntley Project, MT and his dog, Cleo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Eva (Richmond) Turbiville; a sister, Dorothy Butrymowicz and two uncles, Ernest and Roy Turbiville. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. ~ Friday, July 6, 2012 at the United Church of Christ - Congregational in Spearfish with Pastor Jeff Dilks officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills, 1440 North Main Street, Spearfish, SD 57783.
