Dickey "Dick" Olson, 72, of Sturgis, South Dakota, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Sturgis Monument Health, after a long battle with several health issues.
Dickey Joe Olson was born August 28, 1949, in Sturgis, SD, to Benjamin and Dorothy (Fenner) Olson. He was raised and attended schools in Sturgis. On February 27, 1970, he was united in marriage to Viola Crooks in Sturgis, SD.
Dick was a mechanic of anything with an engine. He especially enjoyed working on race bikes, race cars, and derby cars. He was a lifetime member of the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, loved to play cribbage and card games with friends, and watching NASCAR races.
He is survived by his wife, Viola; daughter, Tammy VanSickle of Sturgis; sons, Dan (Vicki) Olson of Rapid City, and Nick (Colleen) Olson of Nisland; grandchildren, Brandon Olson, Tanner VanSickle, Trevor VanSickle, Callie Taken, Trent Olson, Donavin Olson, Sarah Olson, Veronica Olson, Kaden Olson, Danny Olson, Kahle Olson, Domenyk Olson, Katlynn Tarrant, Weaind Olson, and Ava Olson; great-grandchildren, Lane Olson, Cambree Harms, Summer Taken, Jaxon Taken, Bailee Hodge, and Troy Olson; and great-grandson, Lucas VanSickle, expected in August; siblings, Tom (Marge) Olson, Harriet (Jerry) Lolley of Sturgis, and Bob Olson of Gillette; nieces, nephews, and special friends, Robert and Lynette Puhlman, Katelyn and Jaren of Piedmont.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Calvin and Doris Crooks; and one brother, Benny Olson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 3 – 6 p.m., at the Jackpine Gypsy Club grounds, 1216 Short Track Road, Sturgis.
