Dolores Mary Donahey, 83, Sturgis and formerly of Newell, passed away at Sturgis Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, surrounded by family.
Visitation will be Monday, April 22nd from noon to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Dolores was born July 1, 1929, at Red Owl, SD, to Louis and Gertrude (Bachand) Chaney. She attended grade school at Stoneville and graduated from high school at St. Martin's Academy in Sturgis in 1947. She married Donald R. Donahey on June 1, 1948, in Sturgis in a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister, Dorothy, and Bill Hayes, who was Don's best friend.
Her church and her family were the two most important things in her life. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and kept scrapbooks of their lives and activities. She cooked Sunday dinners for the entire family for many years. Her beautiful yard with all her flowers and bountiful garden were admired by many, many people.
Dolores was a member of the Vale Community Club, Newell Garden Club, St. Mary's Altar Society, St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell, and most recently, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna (Kenneth) Wetz, Newell; one son, David (Lynette) Donahey, Capitol, MT; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Sandy) Wetz, Chris (Kendahl) Wetz, Kimberley (Jeremy) Jackson, Max (Suzanne) Wetz, Katrina Banks (Jessy Carlson), Nathan Wetz (Michelle Rost), Michelle Donahey (Dan Maki), Jason Donahey (Maria Fosado), and Travis Donahey; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Connie Evers, Sturgis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Gertrude (Bachand) Chaney; her husband, Donald Donahey; brothers, Paul Allen Chaney, Louis Chaney, and Paul Albert Chaney; her sisters, Dorothy Hayes, Joann Pattison, and Marlys Smith.
Memorials have been established for the Newell Ambulance Service and the restoration of St. Martin's Chapel.
