Dolores (Giroux) Feist, 92, died Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She was born on September 29, 1933, in Lead, South Dakota, to Anton Oliver Giroux, and Margaret (Martin) Giroux. She came from a large and lively family with five other siblings: Georgiana (King), John, Rita (Hartman), Frances (Spatz,) and Anton.
She attended St Patrick’s Catholic school until 8th grade. She went on to graduate from Lead High School in 1951. She attended Black Hills State Teachers College, where she cultivated her artistic and writing abilities. There she met, fell in love with, and married Clifton Leroy Feist on September 19, 1953, in Lead SD.
Clif was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, so the couple lived on different Army bases for two years. After his service, the couple moved to Osage, WY. Later, they moved their family to Cheyenne, WY, until 1978, when they moved to the family ranch next to the North Cave Hills area in Ludlow, SD. They moved to the Black Hills area after 14 years of ranching. There they worked and enjoyed their family until Clif died in 2009.
Dolores raised her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Her deep love for Jesus made others feel loved and accepted regardless of social status. She put people at ease with her humor and friendliness. She was always ready with a sassy comment delivered in the most caring way. She was the first person to laugh at herself. She taught her family to laugh at life and not take themselves too seriously.
She lent her artistic talent to most everything she put her hand to, from cake decorating to various crafts, to painting colorful landscapes. She taught catechism to children and was active in the Catholic Daughters. She later became a sponsor for adults who wanted to join the Catholic Church. She was an eucharistic minister, bringing communion, ministry, and prayer to shut-ins and people in nursing homes.
Dolores was most proud of her family. She invested herself in her kids and grandchildren. She was always ready to support with sage advice or playful banter. After Clif passed away, she lived with her daughter, Mary, and her family in Colorado until 2013. She then moved to Minnesota to live with her daughter, Jennie, and her family until she passed.
Survivors include children: Mary Hauser, Broomfield, CO; Jennie (Joseph) Hulsizer, Bloomington, MN; Tina (William) Kitchings, Maryville, TN; Toinette (Wesley) Brown, Rapid City, SD; Anton Feist, Watertown, SD; thirteen grandchildren; and brother, Anton Giroux
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Charles, and four siblings
