IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Don El
Claude Hall
December 23, 1936 – January 17, 2023
Don El Claude Hall, 86, of Rapid City, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City.
Don Hall was born December 23, 1936 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Johnny and Marie Hall. His Aunt Irene was a major influence in his life due to losing his mother at a young age.
He spent his youth in Oklahoma before joining the Navy in 1954. He was honorably discharged in June of 1969. He spent 15 years in the service during Korea and Vietnam in combat as a medic alongside the Marines. During his time there, he learned radiology and after exiting the Navy went into radiology as a profession. It was during this time he had his first son, Christopher Michael Hoffman.
Soon he married Sherrie (Quinton) Hall on February 14, 1971. She was also a Radiologic Technologist and they met at George Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. To this union were born 3 children; Victoria Hall, Seth (Kelli) Hall, Samantha (Stacey) Weaver.
He accelerated his career by attending University and becoming a Radiation Therapist and also earned his MBA. He was instrumental in starting the Cancer Care Institute when it was formerly Rapid City Regional Hospital. Prior to settling in South Dakota, he and his wife and children moved to many states. From Washington, DC to Virginia to North Carolina to Michigan to Illinois to South Dakota and then Nebraska and back to South Dakota. This resulted in friends from all over the USA.
He had many interests over the years. He and his wife showed AKC Newfoundland Dogs for years. Blossom was always his special Newfie. He bought a mule named Angel and they rode many miles. He also enjoyed woodworking. His most recent achievement was his adoration for his Pomeranian named Candy. She was his world in his final years.
Don is survived by his children and 5 grandchildren.
He will have full military honors at Black Hills National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. He will be interred into the wall with his fellow heroes.
Fort Meade was a huge blessing for dad. Not only for the medical care but also healing from the wounds he mentally received in Vietnam. The family wishes to thank them for everything they did for our dad.
