Don Ray Katsch, 86, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Veteran's Hospital in Hot Springs.
He was born in Hot Springs, SD, on May 30, 1927, to Jess and Vida Fern Katsch. Don served his Country in the Army during World War II then returned home to work with heavy equipment in construction. In the early 70's, he moved to Sturgis, SD, where he worked in maintenance for an apartment complex. Upon his retirement, he moved to Hot Springs to the Michael J Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home. Don enjoyed living at the Soldiers Home where he had many friends and a great staff. He enjoyed the social camaraderie with all, especially playing cards and field trips.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at The Michael J. Fitzmaurice Veteran's Home Chapel, 2500 Minnekahta Ave., Hot Springs, SD, with Chaplain Loyd Nielson officiating. Lunch and fellowship will the follow the service at the Fairburn Community Hall. Burial with military honors will take place that same afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.
Don is survived by 5 children, Donna Koch of Lewistown, MT, Lucy Rice (Kenny) of Rushville, NE, Vance Katsch of Colorado Springs, CO, Dixie Neiffer (Bob) of Custer, and Laura Muckler (Jerry) of Custer. He is also survived by his brother, Keith Katsch of Fairburn, SD; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; son, Kurt Douglas Katsch; sister, Lenore Johnson; and a great-grandson, Noah Thomas Neiffer.
