Donald L. Brooks, 57, Rapid City, SD, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Born May 23, 1955 in Winfield, KS, he was the son of Wallace and Kathryn Brooks. Don grew up creating mischief in Winfield with his brothers and close friends, and then later moved to California with his family. Shortly after graduating high school there, he then served over four years as a mechanic for the United States Army, 1972 to 1976, stationed in Germany. He worked throughout his life as a mechanic or in home construction and repair. He was a jack of all trades and a collector of electric things. He enjoyed being outdoors gathering unique rocks and driftwood. Don enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Shaine Brooks, Wichita, KS, Daniel (Bri) Brooks, Winfield, KS; a daughter, Crystal D. Brooks, Winfield, KS; six grandchildren; his mother, Kathryn Brooks, CA; three brothers, Steve, CA, Dave, CA and Greg Brooks, OR; one sister, Susan Brooks, CA and twelve nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his father, Wallace brooks, one sister and one brother. He will be remembered as a friend by all. A Celebration of Life was held at the Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church, Winfield, KS, on Monday April 22, 2013. A Burial was held at Winfield Veteran's Cemetery, 1208 North College, Winfield, KS, on Monday, April 22, 2013.
