"Don" Goff
November 28, 1934 – April 20, 2020
Don was born November 28, 1934, at Sturgis, SD, to Clarence and Whipka (Stratemeyer) Goff. He was raised on his dad's ranch at Tepee Creek in eastern Meade County. He loved animals with horses at the top of his list. Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January of 1953.
On the way to Korea, out in the Pacific, the war was over. His next stop was M.P. duty on the island of Oahu for two years. Don served three years active duty and five years inactive.
He was a crew foreman when rural electric was built in Meade County. He was a heavy equipment operator in Wyoming. Don worked the ranch when his dad couldn't do it anymore.
Don went to work for Meade County Highway Department as a mechanic and retired as the Assistant Highway Superintendent. Don's best years were spent on his dad's ranch with his horse between his knees.
Don was a scout leader with the Plainview Rangers. Upon retirement, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, and gold prospecting and some winters in Arizona.
Donald C. Goff, 85, Rapid City, SD, died April 20, 2020, at Rapid City.
Surviving are his two sons, Wesley and Ron; daughter, Berniece; sister, Arlene; and a very special granddaughter, Jennifer; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, two brothers, and two sons, Bart and Danny.
Private family services will be held in his honor. Interment will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, do something nice for a stranger or a homeless person.
