Donald "Donnie" Theodore Fahrenwald, Jr., was born March 31, 1936, at Sturgis, SD, to Donald and Evelyn (Bestgen) Fahrenwald. He grew up in Sturgis. He spent some of his favorite times at his maternal grandparent's farm in Sturgis and at his paternal grandparent's farm in Steele City, NE. He also enjoyed hunting at his sister's, Joyce, farm near Vale, SD. He loved visiting with relatives and will be remembered for his "sense of humor."
Donnie joined the US Navy at the age of 17 years. He served on many ships. He retired after 20 years. He then worked for Meade County and retired again after 20 years.
He married Bonnie Sander on July 7, 1982.
He is survived by one step-son, Troy Sander and several grandchildren, including Damian Sander, and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Joyce Kaubisch, Sturgis, Dee (Dean) Dittus, Spearfish, and Paulie (Jack) Trisler, Cortland, NE; two brothers, Jerry (Jean) Fahrenwald, Merseyside, England, and Chuck Fahrenwald, Rapid City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Evelyn "Billie;" his wife, Bonnie; brother-in-law, Gus Kaubisch; and sister-in-law, Jan Fahrenwald.
Private family graveside services, with military honors, will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
