Don Geddes, 83, of Spearfish, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Edgewood Vista in Spearfish.

A prayer service will be held Sunday, August 21, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Charley Conger officiating. Inurnment will follow at Whitewood Cemetery.

Don was born July 21, 1928, in Mason City, IA, to Quentin and Ethel (Roach) Geddes. He grew up on a farm in Iowa and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1946.

On October 12, 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Jensen, in Hayfield, IA.

Don began a 10 year career with the Milwaukee Railroad working in several depots in Iowa and South Dakota. In 1960, he left the railroad to move to Chamberlain, SD, where he was employed by Chamberlain Wholesales in sales until they purchased a grocery store, Don's U-save, in Whitewood, SD, in 1971. Later, they also established the Hole in the Wall bar, which he and Shirley operated until their retirement. They then enjoyed several years on an acreage on the Red Water River near Belle Fourche.

Don loved to garden, do wood-working, and mow his 10 acre lawn. He also spent time golfing and was an avid pool player. He was inducted into the South Dakota Pool Hall of Fame in 1980. In 2001, he and Shirley purchased a home in Belle Fourche, where they lived until their move to Edgewood Vista in Spearfish. There he enjoyed his last years shooting pool and visiting with his new found friends.

Don is survived by his children, Ed (Dee) Geddes, Oacoma, SD, Deb (Scott) Dominiack, Brookings, SD, James Geddes, Fruitdale, SD, Todd (Shannon) Geddes, Belle Fourche, SD, Jodi (David) Behrens, Oswego, IL, and Jennifer (Bob) Weyrich, Rapid City, SD. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Trisha (Brian) Burke with Maci, Ashton, and Daryn of Chamberlain; Trent (Emilee) Geddes with Conner, Carsten, and Emersyn of Sioux Falls; Ryan Dominiack of Santa Rosa, CA; Kara Dominiack of Minneapolis, MN; Quinten Geddes of Spearfish; Kendra Geddes of Cheyenne, WY; Brooke, Katie, Nathan, and Molly Behrens of Oswego, IL; Krista (Joey) Kirst with Aubree of Rapid City; and Nick and Taylor Weyrich of Rapid City; one sister, Mary Rose Harrington of Apache Junction, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Karen Geddes of Las Vegas, NV, and Melva (Pat) Boyle of Clarkston, WA; and one brother-in-law, Bob (Mary Ann) Jensen of Palmer, AK.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; a daughter, Molly; a brother, Dean; and both parents.

A memorial has been established.
