Donald Arthur Haefs, 78, Rapid City, died Tuesday, 10/25/2011 at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital.

Committal services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Pastor Willard Olsen officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.

Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Donald was born February 19, 1933 at Piedmont, SD, to Ervin Haefs and Vivian Stolp (Canaday). Don attended country school and grew up in the Black Hills.

Don joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably from 1952 until 1955, including a tour of Korea. Following his discharge he returned home and started working in auto body repair in the Northern Black Hills. He also worked as a siding contractor and was a mechanic.

Don loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his sons Frank (Joyce) Haefs, Rapid City, Jim (Carmen) Haefs, Rapid City; one daughter, Donna Haefs, Lead; two sisters, Judy Wells, Rapid City and Vesta (Tim) Wells Johnson, Rapid City; also 7 grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, John, brother, Ervin and sister, Florence.
