Donald R. Masteller 83 of Sturgis passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Ft. Meade LTC. As per his wishes cremation has taken place and inurnment will be at a later date in the Draper Cemetery. Don was born on December 27, 1927 to Elmer G. and Bessie L. (Prentice) at their home north of Draper, SD. He attended school in Draper, riding horseback to school every day with his 3 brothers. He enlisted into the Navy in March of 1946 and served in the Seabees, spending most of his time on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. He returned to his home in November 1947 and began his life on a farm just like the rest of his family did. On May 17, 1948 he married Ruth DuVall and for those who said it wouldn't last, they only made it till one month short of being 63 years together. They lived on a farm northeast of Draper till March of 1960 when they moved to Rapid City, SD where he later bought Roush Moving and Storage Co. Sickness forced him to sell the company in February of 1979 and they retired to a small farm near Hermosa where they lived for 11 years. From there they moved to Arizona where they made their for the next 17 years, then finally moving back to South Dakota where they lived in Sturgis near Ft. Meade Health facilities where he received excellent care and where he died April 17, 2011 with his wife and granddaughter Gena present. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 2 children. He leaves to mourn his wife, 4 children Connie Waddell (Renee), Randall "Butch" Masteller (Bonnie), Karen Dunn (David), Kurt Masteller (Lisa), plus one very special friend/daughter Linda Bluel, along with his 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and a great many friends.
