Donald A. Pfarr, 76, Whitewood, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Don was born Jan. 17, 1931, at Windsor, N.D., to Arthur and Rose (Cichos) Pfarr. He grew up on a farm near Windsor. He helped build the Jamestown Dam near Jamestown, N.D.
He married Myrtle Olson in Jamestown on Aug. 29, 1952.
In 1953, they moved to Lead, where Don worked for Homestake for 40 years until his retirement in 1991. He was nicknamed "big cat" at Homestake. They moved to Whitewood in 1977 where they have lived since.
Don was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Newell Country Club, the Steelworkers Union at Homestake and the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included golfing, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed going to Deadwood, cooking, gardening and was an avid walker.
No one was a stranger to Don. His favorite saying was "No Problem."
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Pfarr, Whitewood; two sons, Jerry (Jean) Pfarr, Winnemucca, Nev., and Jay (Melynda) Pfarr, Belle Fourche; five grandchildren, Alex, Jeremy, Jillian, Dalton, and Morgan; his mother, Rose Pfarr, Jamestown, N.D.; two brothers, Gene Pfarr, St. Onge, and Duke (Marie) Pfarr, Cleveland, N.D.; and one sister, Jeanette (Marvin) Fettig, Bismarck, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his father, Art.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 12 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating.
