Donald L. Shreve, 93, of Naples, Florida passed away peacefully at his residence on February 3, 2021. He was born in Columbus, Nebraska the only child of Orville and Pearl Browning Shreve.
Don graduated High School in Arnold, Nebraska in 1945 and then served in the US Army in the European Theater during WW II. He was stationed in Paris, France and was honorably discharged in February 1947. He then attended college on the GI Bill at Kearney State College (now University of Nebraska) in Kearney, Nebraska.
It was after college and while working in Omaha that he met and fell in love with Bette Lucas. The couple were married in her home town of Mitchell, South Dakota in May of 1954. They settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota where they worked and had a family. Don worked for Ford Motor Company for 11 years prior to moving to the Rochester, Minnesota area. He purchased a Ford dealership in Stewartville, Minnesota and eventually the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Rochester. He sold the dealership and retired in 1980.
Don and Bette began spending winters in Naples in 1982 and moved there full time in 1992. After the death of his wife Bette in 1998, he reconnected with his college sweetheart, Dorothy Bliss who was also widowed. They married in January 2001 and had 10 wonderful years together prior to her death in 2010.
Survivors are his five children; Debora Shreve (Tom Keane), Jayne Liebsch (Ed), Don Shreve Jr., (Margie), Ken Shreve (Kathi), Laura Boehm (Mike); two step-sons, Kent Bliss (Debra) and Rodney Bliss (Betsy); 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Christian and Masonic services will take place at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, South Dakota on Friday February 19, 2021. Burial with full military honors in the Black Hills National Cemetery will follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Collier-Lee Honor Flight , PO Box 8001, Naples, FL 34101. This organization honoring our nations veterans was very near to Don's heart.
