Donald T. Sprosty, known to his nieces and nephews as Uncle Ducky, passed on from this world to the next on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
Donald was born on December 18, 1924, in Eastman, WI, son of Joseph A. and Theresa (Phillip) Sprosty.
Donald was one of the first contingents of Crawford County men to be inducted into the army under the new selective service program in 1950. He was severely injured stateside before he was deployed.
He was the favorite uncle. Donald traveled the country living with his brothers and sisters and their families helping out on the farms. He loved to brew his own beer. He lived in Rapid City and the Castlerock Home in Whitewood, SD, before entering the VA center at Sturgis.
Donald is survived by many nieces and nephews across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence, Charles, Bernard, Leonard, Leo, and Raymond; and sisters, Margaret Munyon, Veronica Thomas, and Mary DuCharme.
Committal services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Fr. Bill Zandri officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 1273 of Rapid City. Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis prior to leaving for the cemetery.
