Donna Mae Johnson was born May 22, 1926, at new Underwood, SD, to Albert "Butch" and Lela (Derby) Roth.
She grew up on a ranch on Haydraw and graduated from Sturgis High School. She received her teaching certificate from Black Hills Normal and taught at the rural Cottonwood school until she married Kenneth Johnson on September 11, 1946. She spent her adult life on their ranch near Vale, SD.
Donna was a member of the National Cattleman's Association, South Dakota Stockgrowers, Cowbelles, Order of Eastern Star, South Dakota Republican Women, and Grace Lutheran Church.
She loved to entertain friends and family. No matter how many extra stopped by there was always plenty of home cooked meals to share.
Donna's children and grandchildren loved her 4th of July fried chicken. She enjoyed gardening and she shared her produce with everyone. She loved her family and friends and was a proud hard-working ranch wife.
Donna, 92, died Friday, September 14, 2018 in Sturgis.
Survivors include her brother, Jack (Mary) Roth; son, Carl Johnson; daughter, Susan (Bob) Heibult; grandchildren, Brett, Brook, Corey, Scott, Eric, Amanda, Kristin, and Sarah; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son, Dale; parents; sister, Velma; and one brother, Albert Jr.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Kris Garlick officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
