IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna Gayle
Kiewel
August 3, 1948 – November 27, 2025
Donna Gayle (Grubb) Kiewel was born August 3, 1948, to Fredrick Donal Grubb and Grace Fern (Eaton) Grubb in Deadwood, SD. She grew up on a ranch near Devils Tower in Hulett, WY. In high school, she was active in 4-H and was also a member of the cheerleading squad. She graduated from Hulett High School in 1966 and then spent a year attending Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD, but did not receive a degree.
She married Kenneth Kiewel on May 17, 1968, and they were married for 49 years. They were about six months shy of reaching their 50th anniversary when Kenny passed away.
Prior to her children entering kindergarten, Donna was a stay-at-home mom and ran daycare out of her home, and booked loads for trucking companies. She also worked for the school system as a crosswalk attendant. She then worked at Prairie Market for multiple years prior to moving on to her final career at Shopko.
Donna was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when she was 34 years old. When diagnosed, they didn't think she would live more than five years, but being the fighter she was, she definitely proved the doctors wrong and fought the disease far longer than anyone believed possible.
Donna loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren more than anything and never passed up the chance to brag on them. She may not always let you know how proud she was of you, but she definitely would let anyone else that would listen know. She loved bowling trips with the girls; time spent at Angostura camping and boating with friends and family, and cheering on the kids and grandkids at all their different sporting events. She also loved playing cards, rummy-cube, crossword puzzles, word searches, and putting together puzzles.
Donna, 77, Rapid City, SD, passed peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, November 27, 2025 (Thanksgiving Day) at 3:50 a.m., at Clarkson Healthcare Center.
Donna is survived by her one son, Fred (Teri) Kiewel, and one daughter, Karen (Brett) Foreman, both of Rapid City; one brother, Kenny (Janet) Grubb, Sundance, WY, and one sister, Joyce (Dave) Hall, Buffalo, WY. She is also survived by three brothers-in-law, Wally (Dorthy) Kiewel of Belle Fourche, Clayton Kiewel of Gillette, WY, and James "Jimmy" (Karin) Kiewel of Kansas; three sisters-in-law, Verla Crago, Grace Strickland, and Mavis (Bill) Jeffery, all of Rapid City.
Donna had nine grandchildren: Brandon (Rae) Kiewel, Marcus Kiewel, Alex (Trevor) Rutan Mazzola, Brandy (Jaron Brookman) Foreman, Brennan (Aubrey) Bartos, Brady Foreman, Steven (Alex) Kiewel, Kirsten Kiewel, and Trevor Rutan. She also had 11 great-grandchildren: Paityn Kiewel, Rhylan Mazzola, Emmie Lou Mazzola, Laraya Kiewel, Denver Kiewel, Henry Bartos, Taysom Kiewel, Hudson Bartos, Avery Kiewel, Presley Foreman, and Kayson Brookman; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her father and mother, Donal and Fern Grubb; her mother and father-in-law, James and Ruth Kiewel; brothers-in-law, Marvin Crago and Donald Strickland; one sister-in-law, Jeanette Kiewel; one nephew-in-law, Rodney Ahner; and one great nephew, Nolan Ahner.
