Doris Herring, 89, Sturgis, SD, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at her residence in Sturgis.
Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006, at the First Wesleyan Church in Sturgis with Pastor Dwight Peterson officiating. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.
Doris was born November 2, 1916, near Belvidere, SD, to Tilden and Estelle (Miles) Shook. She was raised on her father's homestead near Kadoka where she attended country school. She graduated from Kadoka High School and was a member of the first graduating class at the National College of Business in Rapid City. Doris married Emory Herring at Pierre, SD, on March 19, 1948. She continued her education and graduated from Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD, with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education. She taught in several East River communities, before retiring in Sturgis. Doris was a member of the Christian Women's Association. She studied nutrition, herbology and was a student of health and wellness. She earned a certificate as a holistic practitioner of alternative medicine.
Survivors include her two daughters, Frances Smith, Yuma, AZ, Phyllis Clingman, Gillette, WY; three grandchildren, Brad Griswold, Lolo, MT, Jennifer Riley, Gillette, WY, Matthew Herring Clingman, Gillette, WY; four great-grandchildren, Haley Grace Hoffman, Stephensville, MT, Kayle Liberty Riley and Braxton J. Riley, Gillette, WY, Rylian Griswold, Lolo, MT.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and one grandchild.
The family will miss her deeply but are comforted by the fact that Doris now resides with the Lord.
