Doris L. Venekamp, 95, of Spearfish, SD., passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025.

Doris was born on December 30, 1929 to Lloyd and Lorraine Cross in Presho, SD where she grew up with her 12 siblings.  She attended the country school, where she finished 8th grade.  Later in life she went on to study for and obtain her high school diploma as well as certificate in accounting.

On June 27, 1948 Doris married Jack Venekamp.  They moved to parts of Montana and Idaho while raising a family of 5 children. Doris worked primarily in customer service positions for many years while taking pride in being a loving and devoted mother for her family.

Doris enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and boardgames with her family and friends.  She especially loved to sew and bake.  Her talents were well known and loved by many family members and friends which brought her great joy.  Her favorite times were spent at family gatherings, where there was great food, laughing and playing games.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Lorraine Cross, her loving husband of 66 years Jack Venekamp, and 11 of her siblings.

Doris is survived by her 5 children, David (Cathy) Venekamp of Weston, WV., Glenna Theberge of Polson, MT., Michael Venekamp of Spearfish, SD., Lorraine Venekamp of Seward, NE., Robin Sandor of Spearfish, SD., 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren, and her sister Ardis Williams of Omaha, NE.

Memorial Services will be held on May 5, 2025 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Ave. in Sturgis, SD at 1:30pm.  At 3:00 pm she will be escorted to the Black Hills National Cemetery for burial. There will be a gathering in Spearfish at the VFW located at 3102 E Fairgrounds Loop for some food and visiting.  Doors at the VFW will open at 4:30pm.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations go to Still Water Hospice.
