Obituary

Dorothy Mae Renner Hall, 88, formerly of Moscow, Idaho.

Dorothy Mae Hall died Dec. 28, 2017, in Rapid City, S.D., as a result of a car accident. She was born to Ross Ora Renner and Lydia Mae Wilde Renner on April 19, 1929, in Hyde County, S.D. Mom lived in Moscow most of her life and considered Moscow her home. Seven years ago, Mom returned to Highmore, S.D., to be with her childhood sweetheart, Dennis Ruzicka.

Mom was raised in Highmore, where she lived 1.5 miles from the Ruzicka family from birth until fourth grade, when she moved to Carlin Bay, Idaho. The family later moved to Moscow, where she finished her schooling.

She met her husband of 18 years, George Ernest "Ernie" Hall, while working at Bob's doughnut shop on Third Street. George was working at Modern Way on Main Street at the time. Together they had four girls: Kris, Barb, Judi and Bonnie. Dorothy later worked at the Idahonian as a proofreader, and at the University of Idaho as a lab technician for 21 years.

Mom raised her four daughters as a single mom and did an excellent job. After retiring from the UI, her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandkids. She was loved by all her grandchildren. Some of the family's favorite memories include her wonderful breakfasts. Mom enjoyed spending time shopping at thrift stores looking for treasures. She will be missed by all of us.

Dorothy is survived by daughter Kris (Mark) Boreen of Pullman, and grandchildren Richard (Melissa) Crossler of Choctaw, Okla., Robert (Crystal) Crossler of Pullman, and Pam (Cody) Melton of Helena, Mont.; daughter Barb (Rick) Whitcomb of Kamiah, and grandchildren Bud (Courtney) Whitcomb of LaGrande, Ore., and Jake Whitcomb of Greeley, Colo.; daughter Judi (Tim) Davis of Moscow, and grandchildren Tony Magnuson of Austin, Texas, Cathi (Ryan) Zeller of Baton Rouge, La., Melissa (Wes) Castro of Little Rock, Ark., Joel (Cat) Davis of Colfax, and Jessi (Bodey) Davis of Albion; and daughter Bonnie (Perry) Berger of Garfield, and grandchildren Bill (Bridget) Warner-Hall, and Sarah (Brandon) Blevins of Boise, Steve Berger of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Tina (James) Evans of Fukuay Varina, N.C.; 20 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and one great-great grandchild. She also is survived by Dennis Ruzicka of Highmore, S.D. (her childhood sweetheart); her sister, Shirley Drew of Moscow; and many beloved nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Renner.

Kinkade Funeral Home of Sturgis, S.D., cared for the deceased. Dorothy requested a small family graveside service and a celebration of her life that will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Moscow Fire Department, 603 S. Main St., Moscow, ID 83843.
