Dorothy L. Henderson, 99, Lead, SD, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Belle Fourche Health Care Center in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Dorothy was born on November 28, 1912, in San Diego, California. When Dorothy was a young child, her father was killed in an industrial accident, and her stepmother moved them to Lead, South Dakota, where she lived for the rest of her life.
After graduating from Lead High School in 1930, she wed Clarence Henderson of Lead, and together they raised four children. Dorothy was a lifelong member and faithful servant of Christ Church in Lead, South Dakota, working on the Altar Guild and serving as the church treasurer for 17 years. She was also a devoted and long-term member of Ruth Lodge #3.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Maxine Kermu of Lead, her three children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; her son Robert Henderson of Spearfish, his two children, and grandchildren; her son Keith (Kandis) Henderson, Carroll, IA, and their two sons; her son Stephen (Gail) Henderson, Papillion, NE and their two children, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father George C. Mackinnon, her stepmother, Octavia Mackinnon, two infant sons Charles and George, a granddaughter Colleen Henderson, and her husband Clarence Henderson.
Memorial services for Dorothy L. Henderson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Christ Church Episcopal, 631 West Main Street, Lead, South Dakota.
The Rev. Dr. Vern Raschke, rector, will officiate. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at South Lead Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name for Christ Church in Lead, South Dakota.
The family would like to thank the owners and staff at the Garden Hills Assisted Living Center in Spearfish, SD, where Dorothy lived for the last seven years. We appreciate their sincere love and dedication over those years to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
