Dorothy Irene Kinney, 81, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Miller officiating.
Dorothy was born May 2, 1931, in Lead, SD, to John R. and Pearl (Dow) Kinney and grew up in Terraville. She graduated from Lead high school and went to work for "Ma Bell" (now Century Link) as a telephone operator. She began working in Lead, and later transferred to the Deadwood office, and finally to the Rapid City office. She then retired in 1988, from the Rapid City office after 35 years of service.
She was member of the Terraville Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the Qwest Pioneers.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Eugene (Karen) Kinney, Sturgis; sister, Helen (John) Wright, Spearfish; her nieces,(that have enjoyed being her caregivers) Teri (Calvin) Pawlowski, Rapid City, Diana (Clyde) Dietrich, Sturgis; Cindy (Ivan) Bierema, St. Onge; and many other nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
A memorial has been established to the Rapid City Library Foundation for the Children's Area.
