Dorothy E. Voorhees, 87, passed peacefully on September 12th, 2014 at the Sturgis Regional Care Facility.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
She was born March 29, 1927, in Mitchell, SD to Louis and Nellie (Noteboom) Cooper, and was one of 5 children. She attended Coleman High School. Dorothy married Melford Voorhees on June 10, 1945 and raised 4 children. She was a longtime employee of First National Bank of the Black Hills presently known as Wells Fargo. Family was her passion; she was very involved with of all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy loved attending all their activities. She was a faithful member and volunteer of the First Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Meade County Election Board.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte (Darel) Mowry, McKinney, TX; daughter in law, Barbara Voorhees of Sturgis, son Douglas (Betty) Voorhees, Sturgis, SD and son James (Janis) Voorhees, Scottsdale, AZ. She has 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melford, son Donald, her parents, two brothers and a sister.
A memorial has been established with the Shriner Hospital.
