Obituary

Douglas Dale Barlow was born June 2, 1941, in Denver, CO, to Grady and Maxine Barlow. Doug's early years of education were spent in Hastings, NE. His High School years were spent in Denver, CO, while summers were spent with his grandparents in Prairie City, SD.
Upon graduating from High School, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he was in the Medical Corps from March 1960 through March 1964. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Doug continued his civilian education at the Medical Nursing School in Ft. Smith, AR, graduating as a Nurse Practitioner. He practiced his profession in Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and finally retired at the La Vida Mission Clinic for Navajo children in New Mexico. After retiring, he and his family moved to Montana, where they resided for two years. While living there, he purchased his grandparents homestead in Prairie City, SD. After living there less than a year, he became critically ill and passed away at the Ft. Meade, SD, Veterans Hospital on March 26, 2019.
Over the years, Doug was an avid horseman and rode as often as time permitted. In 1971, he conducted a trail-ride in Colorado for horseback riders from all over the country. Horses were truly his greatest enjoyment.
He is survived by two sons, Scott and Kevin of Albuquerque, NM; one granddaughter, Haley Barlow of Albuquerque, NM; his wife, Virgenia and two children, Jasmine and Christopher, of the home; one sister, Carol Elliot of Albuquerque, NM; one aunt, Shirley Stewart of Farmington, NM; and several cousins.
