Obituary

Douglas Driscoll, 56, Belle Fourche, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Following his wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Belle Fourche with Deacon Raymond Klein officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Douglas Driscoll was born July 14, 1950, in Mitchell, SD, to Harry and Betty (Assmuss) Driscoll. The family moved to Philip, SD, in 1954 and to Belle Fourche in 1962. Doug graduated from Belle Fourche High School and attended Black Hills State University. He worked at Dave Richards Conoco, and then Pioneer Sporting Goods until 1989 when it burned down. After the store burned down, Doug went to work in Deadwood, working as a dealer at the Wrangler, Miss Kitty's, and most recently at Cadillac Jack's, where he was employed until his death.

Doug loved the outdoors spending many hours hunting, and fishing for walleye. If he was not hunting or fishing, he would be shooting wildlife with his camera or climbing a mountain to get the shot he was after. He taught gun safety, competed in many trap shoots, and was a Boy Scout leader teaching young boys the love of nature he had learned as a young boy going with his dad. He learned to play the saxophone at a young age, continued through high school, and played in a band with a local group.

Doug will be missed by all who knew him, especially his best friend, his hunting and fishing partner, Pete Krush and family of Belle Fourche, and a special person in his life, Jehnet Carlson of Montana. Doug was preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister, Sue (who died of cystic fibrosis), and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, Doug requested memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
