Douglas Brian Knaub, 64, of Fort Meade, SD, and formerly from Newell, SD, died Friday, June 15, 2023, at Minneapolis VA Hospital, Minnesota.

Douglas was born May 16, 1959, in Deadwood, SD, to Wilbur and Hazel (Trohkimoinen) Knaub. He went to Vale Grade School for a few years and then to Newell, where he graduated from High School where he loved playing football, and basketball. Douglas attended Black Hills State College for a few months, studying drafting; and ran long distance track.

He joined the U.S. Navy on September 21, 1981, and departed from there September 10, 1983, after 2 years of service. While there he served as a fireman, and earned his Sea Service Deployment ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. Following his time in the Navy he worked building upscale homes in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Eventually he returned to South Dakota where he worked for several area farmers.

Doug is survived by his mother, Hazel (Don) Robertson; 2 sisters, Robin Garro, and Lisa Seth; and 1 brother, Dana Knaub; along with 8 nieces and nephews.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, a brother, his grandparents, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services, with military honors will be Friday, June 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.                    Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Inurnment will follow at Vale Cemetery, Vale SD.

Memorials have been established to the Vale Cemetery and Butte County Ambulance.
