Douglas was born on March 23, 1957, in Sturgis, SD. He grew up and loved living on the family farm/ranch southeast of Enning, SD. He attended school in Sturgis where graduated high school in 1975. He enlisted in the Army and served from June 1982 through July 1984. After the service he worked as a laborer in different jobs with his last one being at Sioux Steel in Sioux Falls, SD.
Douglas loved watching sports but favored baseball with the Minnesota Twins his favorite team. He loved to play cards and games and would drive all the way from Sioux Falls to Sturgis or McCook, NE, to challenge his family into playing for hours. He enjoyed touring the Black Hills and dropping a few coins in the machines coming through Deadwood. He loved his church family in Sioux Falls and often talked about how special they were to him.
After suffering a stroke in 2016, he resided at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD. He thought of all the staff there as his second family.
His family and friends will always remember him as an individual who was easy to get along with.
Douglas Roy O'Grady, 61, was called to his heavenly home on July 20, 2018. He was residing at the Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon, SD.
Douglas is survived by his father; Norman (Janice) O'Grady, McCook NE; brother, Roger (Ellen) O'Grady, Sturgis; nephews, Jeff, Davis and Zach; nieces, Denise, Cindy, Vicky, Amanda, and Jennifer.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Iva O'Grady; sister, Janet Fischer; sister, Sharon Haley; infant brother and infant sister.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 24, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, interment with military honors follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
