Douglas Paul
Pettit
Dec 12, 1953 — Jul 26, 2023
Chadron
Douglas "Doug" Pettit, 69, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center. Doug was born to Margaret and Ralph Pettit on December 12, 1953
He served with the United States Marines in Vietnam and participated in rodeos throughout his time in the service. Those around him were constantly enriched by his sense of humor and generosity of heart. He never missed an opportunity to deliver a gentle ribbing accompanied by his trademark smirk. Doug was a consummate cowboy who dedicated his life to working with cattle and horses and was never more at home than when he was laboring on ranches. In his later years, Doug spent his time tending to his garden, "moving some cows around," and chasing after his mischievous cat whom he lovingly named Monster.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother and father; his beloved sisters, Mavis O'Bryan, Loyola Eckstaine, Mary Zimmerman, Tammie Pettit, Bobbie Sell, and Marjean Pettit; and his brothers, Ralph Pettit, Jr., Gordon Pettit, and Bill Pettit; brothers-in-law Lloyd Eckstaine, Richard O'Bryan, and Gary Sell; and two nephews, Ryan and Brett Sell.
Doug is survived by his three children, Dakota, Colt, and Cheyenne; his sisters, Nancy Edwards, Patty Wegehaupt, Carol Herrmann, and Dorothy Olsen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Doug was a true believer and follower of Jesus Christ our Lord and strove to be a light of God's grace on Earth. In Doug's memory, please donate to Feeding America or your local humane society.
