Drew I.
Miller
September 25, 1989 – April 28, 2026
10:00 am - 12:00 pm (Mountain time)
Drew Miller, 36, of Pierre passed away on April 28th, 2026 in Pierre.
A memorial brunch will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, at Drifter's.
Drew was born in Pierre, South Dakota on September 25, 1989, to Judy Wegner and Kirk Miller. A true child of the prairie, her childhood was defined by swimming and camping at Okabojo with family and friends, riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, and taking frequent trips to the family cabin in Custer State Park - a place she loved returning to throughout her life. Though she was a quiet child, her kindness ran deep. She was an animal lover who would go out of her way to save even the smallest bug.
As a young child, she had a gift for creating beautiful things through drawing, painting, and pottery. As she grew older, she also found a love for poetry. From a young age, Drew was a natural athlete who excelled at every sport she touched. She found particular success in soccer and basketball, where she built friendships that lasted a lifetime. In high school, her athletic talents expanded to softball and discus, where she became one of the top competitors in the state. Yet, to those who knew her best, she was far more than an athlete—she was hilarious, generous, and perhaps the most compassionate person one could ever meet. Some of her most cherished memories were made with her best friend Polly Gill and traveling with her family, exploring Costa Rica, Belize, and Jamaica, and embarking on countless road trips in their Volkswagen van.
After graduating in 2008, Drew attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, on a soccer scholarship. She later transferred to Mankato, bringing her wit and ability to make people laugh wherever she went. After college, Drew worked for Mustang Aviation, where she pursued her pilot’s license. She successfully earned her solo certificate and logged over 50 hours in the air. Flying a plane for the first time was a proud moment for her, and it was especially meaningful that she followed in the footsteps of her father, Kirk. She eventually joined the family business at Wegner Auto before moving to Sioux Falls to live with her partner. In the fall of 2025, Drew returned to Pierre to be closer to her family. She spent her final days surrounded by the love of her parents and the companionship of her beloved dog, Mya.
Drew is survived by her mother, Judy Wegner; her father, Kirk Miller; her sister, Taylor Miller (Chris Erickson), and niece, Grey Erickson. She is also survived by her Wegner family: Jim Wegner, Beverly Wegner (Janna and Jodi Reeves), Carla Sahr, Mike Boocock, Sara Boocock, and Bryan Boocock (Jana and Lily); and her Miller family: Jean, Al, Jenna, Devin (Julie), Keith, Anna, Cole (Jessica), and Ross (Dominic); as well as countless friends and loved ones.
This loss leaves a profound hole in the lives of all her family and all who knew her. We know Drew can now be found in all the beautiful, gentle things of this world.
