Obituary

Duane was born December 16, 1933, to Louie and Frances (Lemaster) Carstensen in Piedmont, SD. They then moved to a Centennial Valley farm-ranch near Spearfish.

He graduated from the Laboratory school in Spearfish. After completing correspondence courses, he operated Duane's TV and Appliances in Sturgis for over 40 years. He was the original T.V. Repairman. He was also a member of many organizations including, Lawrence County Historical Society, Modern Woodsmen, Rotary Club, Centennial Valley Preservation Program, American Legion, Model T Club and Corvette Club of America.

He married Esther Irene Stark on September 15, 1966.

Duane Everet Carstensen, 83, Sturgis, died Sunday December 3, 2017, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Esther Carstensen, Sturgis; sister, Verla Mae (Jim) Weaver, Spearfish; niece, Tami Kovalick, Davidsonville, MD; nephews, Mark Weaver, Gettysburg, PA, and Elton Hochhalter, Boise, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia Hochhalter and two infant brothers, Clifford and Myron Carstensen.

Visitation will be noon until service time on Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Kris Garlick officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitewood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Grace Lutheran Church.
