IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dwane Delmer
Lewis
September 13, 1933 – June 23, 2016
Dwane was born September 13, 1933, in Sioux Falls, SD, the eldest son of Carl and Lillian (Miller) Lewis. In his early years, he worked with his father-in-law, James Adams, in the family excavating business. But his life-long career was water well drilling. He worked for many drilling companies over his career and owned his own company until his retirement. He was well-respected in his field and continued consulting until his death. He loved the geology of South Dakota and was an expert on the formations of the Black Hills.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. His interests included fishing, boating, hunting, reading, poker, the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Twins, and building model ships, airplanes, and cars. In retirement, he enjoyed building outdoor furniture and wishing wells.
But, what he treasured most in life was his wife of 63 years, Justine. He met Gussie at the age of 15 while ice-skating at Drake Springs in Sioux Falls. They were married three years later on August 28, 1952. He was blessed with ten children, 28 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. The couple enjoyed puzzles, playing cards, and the companionship of family and life-long friends. Dwane had a caring soul and believed there was always room for one more. Many of his nieces, nephews, and children's friends considered him a second dad.
Dwane Delmer Lewis, 82, died peacefully at his Sturgis home on Thursday, June 23, 2016.
