Dwight Earl Cundy was born July 17, 1943, in Spearfish, SD, to Isaac Earl and Mildred Mae (Engelson) Cundy. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1961. He entered the US Navy later that year.
Dwight was a life-long learner and had several college degrees. His final degree in accounting led him to work for United States Department of Agriculture, Office of the Inspector General. He retired in 2006.
Dwight's greatest personal accomplishment was his sobriety which he attained in 1983. Dwight faced much adversity in his life. His family was extremely proud of his 37 years of sobriety and his ability to overcome obstacles.
Dwight was a beloved son, brother, friend, and uncle. His seven nieces and nephews were his children and he was so supportive of his entire family. You could always count on him to attend any family event or activity.
Dwight went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2020.
Dwight is survived by his sister, Barbara (Cundy) and Roger Swenson; nieces and nephews, David Swenson, Michael (Pamela) Swenson, Terri (Robert) Ross, Joy (Kevin) Johnson, Kelly (Marcie) Simons, Karen (Fred) Parks, and Krystal Simons; 22 grand-nieces and nephews; 34 great-nieces and nephews.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anita (Cundy) Simons.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at the United Methodist Church of Sturgis. A family burial will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Sturgis.
