Obituary

Ean Mark MacLaeran (born Mark Joseph Hines), 34 of Sturgis passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his childhood home in Sturgis, after a lengthy struggle with AIDS related illnesses. He left us in his sleep with his mom and dad by his side. At Mark's request, no funeral services will be held. However, at a later date, there will be a gathering to celebrate his life. Mark was born on June 11, 1978, and in his 34 years, he lived a very full life. He had a vibrant personality and charmed everyone he met with his brilliant smile and fun-loving attitude. He was caring and compassionate and never failed to help a friend in need. He had a passion for music and played a fierce piano. Mark enjoyed the great outdoors and could often be found romping in the woods with his boxer-dog. An adventurous spirit, he delighted in traveling and exploring the world; but he got the most satisfaction from spending time with family and friends. He pushed boundaries, challenged stereotypes, and taught us to accept people for who they are. Most of all, he showed us what is truly important in life - love. For those of us who had the honor of knowing him, we are better people for having had him in our lives. Survivors include his parents, Rod and Janet Hines, Sturgis; one sister, Melissa (Tim) Schumacher, Sioux Falls and one brother, Matt (Audrey)Hines, Washington D.C. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Elaine Lingscheit and Robert and Beverly Hayes.
