OBITUARY OF MSGT EARL RONALD MOULTRIE USAF

Earl Ronald Moultrie Jr. entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. He was born October 21, 1941, in Hartford, CT and was the eldest son of the late Earl Moultrie Sr. and the late Lillian Moultrie. Earl graduated from Long Island City High School, New York in June 1961 and entered the United States Air Force in September of the same year.  As a young man Earl married and was blessed with two daughters.

Earl was a proud Veteran who served 21 years in the United States Air Force. The work he did in the USAF enabled him to travel to many other countries and extensively all over the United States. Wherever he went, he always loved to see the points of interest and sample the local cuisine of the many places he visited. His last career assignment was at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD. He enjoyed this part of the country so much he decided to make it his permanent home and retired here. Succeeding retirement, he worked in several career fields: Douglas School System, Rapid City Regional Airport and several more. He received many distinctions, honors, and awards throughout his military and civilian careers.

Earl was a man of great faith he enjoyed telling anyone who would listen about his God. Teaching Sunday school brought immense joy and he received just as much joy being a student in Sunday school classes. He enjoyed giving time and services to the church.

After retirement, Earl's favorite hobbies were archery, hunting, traveling, and jumping into his RV and fishing until there were no more fish to be caught. He enjoyed the great outdoors.

He is survived by his daughters Mrs. Ronda Armstrong and Ms. Caryn Prince, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and many additional family members. Many will greatly miss his 'Mr. Fix It' ways, his gentleness, his wisdom, his storytelling, his generosity and his continual reminder that God loves us all.

A public memorial service will be held at Christ Church,1900 Evergreen Drive, Rapid City, SD – at 9:30 am. A private burial will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the following suggestions:

  • Air Force Aid Society
  • South Dakota Diabetes Coalition
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills
  • Memorial of your own choice

The family would like to thank everyone for the blessings they brought to Earl throughout his life.

THE DAY GOD CALLED YOU HOME

God looked around his garden
And found an empty space;
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest;
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
He knew you were in pain,
He knew you might never
Get well upon this earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
so He closed your weary eyelids
and whispered 'Peace be thine.'
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you never went alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
