IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eddie Leroy
Harris
March 4, 1939 – December 23, 2021
Eddie LeRoy Harris was born March 4, 1939 in Deadwood, South Dakota, to Alfred and Marie (Holvey) Harris. He attended school in Lead, SD, graduating in 1957.
Eddie began working at Homestake Mining company after graduation. Shortly after leaving Homestake, Eddie purchased the Standard station in Lead. While running Harris Standard, he met his wife Linda in October of 1966. It was love at first sight as the two were married December 31,1966 (he planned this so he could always remember the date and there was always a party to go to!). Eddie and Linda were excited to add to their little family, on December 17th, 1967, but unfortunately their excitement turned to heartache because Timothy Ray was stillborn. The couple moved to Arizona and on July 16th, 1970, Eddie's best friend was born; his son, Mark LeRoy Harris.
Eddie enjoyed racing and cars his whole life. This hobby was done with his brother Rich. The two raced motorcycles where Rich even ran Eddie's leg over for the win. This you could say was a Harris tradition as Eddie and Rich were joined with their own kids once they were old enough to walk.
The Harris family moved from Arizona to Colorado in 1971. While in Colorado they started Harris Painting. While this was a fulfilling life, the couple decided to move back to the Black Hills in 1979. Eddie started working for Black Hills Painting, but retired from Black Hills State University in 2001.
Nothing could keep this man still, even with retirement came work. He enjoyed working in the garage on his numerous toys, some might say he had a bit much. But not to Eddie, the cars were the apple of his eye until his grandkids were born. He was not one to sit home after Linda passed away, he would run cars for numerous dealerships in the area when he was not catching a soccer or football game.
Eddie passed away, in his home, December 23, 2021. Eddie is survived by his son, Mark (Alicia) Harris; his grandsons, Michael and Jaxson Harris, and numerous family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Harris; his son, Timothy Ray Harris; his parents, Alfred and Marie Harris; sister, Zeta Jensen, and brother, Rich Harris.
